01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Café AusZeit, nestled in the heart of Kusel at Marktstraße 16, is much more than your typical local cafe. This charming spot has become a beloved haven for residents and visitors alike, thanks to its warm ambiance, exceptional coffee, and heartfelt hospitality. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the friendly smile of Laura, the owner, whose passion for creating a memorable experience shines through every detail.

The menu, while not exhaustively listed, is clearly a treasure trove for anyone who loves thoughtfully crafted coffee and comforting bites. Customers rave about the quality and taste of the coffee—with flat whites praised for their perfect balance and silky texture—and the standout croffles and grilled cheese sandwiches, which have become signature offerings. Imagine biting into a golden, crisp croffle, its warm sweetness perfectly complementing a rich cup of coffee; or savoring gooey, melted cheese on perfectly toasted bread, prepared with care and attention to flavor. These dishes are not just food; they’re moments of pure delight that invite you to slow down and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

What truly sets Café AusZeit apart, however, is not just what’s on the menu but the experience it cultivates. Families bring their children to enjoy the cozy kids' area, where even the youngest guests are warmly attended to—with gestures such as babyccinos accompanied by mini marshmallows and a coloring sheet waiting to keep little hands busy. The personal touch from Laura and her team creates a sense of community and belonging, making every visit feel like catching up with an old friend.

Reviewers frequently mention the exceptional customer service as a defining feature. Alexandra Mainord highlights how their family outings here blend relaxation and joy perfectly, while Jason Lanier appreciates not only the delicious offerings but also Laura’s bright personality, which infuses the café with a unique charm. Beyond food and drink, Café AusZeit doubles as a friendly hub, a place for conversation, support, and genuine connection—something that is beautifully illustrated by Anna Warm’s story of how Laura helped her band during their tour.

Even practical details like language support—Laura speaks English—and the anticipation of modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, show the café’s commitment to improving the visitor experience without sacrificing its intimate atmosphere. Though currently cash only, the warmth and quality here compensate for any minor logistical inconveniences.

In every aspect, Café AusZeit is a shining example of what a community-centric café can be: cozy, welcoming, and sincere. It’s a gem in downtown Kusel where the coffee tastes better not just because of the beans, but because it’s made and served with love. Whether you’re seeking a soothing solo coffee break, a casual catch-up with friends, or a family-friendly spot where everyone feels valued, Café AusZeit offers a little pause in the busy rhythm of life—a true “AusZeit,” a time out well spent.

My favorite spot in Kusel. Cafe AusZeit has amazing coffee and delicious food, but even better than the food is the customer service. The owner is so friendly and takes such good care of her customers. We love to come as a family because my husband and I can sit and enjoy our coffee while our girls play happily in the kids area.

An absolute must! Laura (owner/chef/designer) is as much of a special feature of this splendid cafe as are the croffles, grilled cheeses, and coffees. My wife, dear friends, and choir members throughly enjoyed our visits here.

So glad to have a trendy cafe in downtown kusel. Most importantly, the coffee is excellent. Ordered a flat white and it was perfect. The waffles are made to order and hot. Looking forward to trying many other menu items! Prices are . The owner is very kind and you can tell she really enjoys what she does. She also speaks English. It's currently cash only, but once they get wifi that will change. There is a little corner for the kids so you can enjoy a hot beverage. Looking forward to being a regular customer!

Wonderful little place with the kindest service! My daughter and I stopped in today with her babies - an almost 2 year old and a newborn. They were so kind and attentive to us and the toddler - brought us colored pencils and a coloring sheet right away. We ordered a free “babycinno” - they were sweet and asked if it was okay for him to have mini marshmallows and also about powdered sugar on his “Chaffee” - they also said they would make what he was eating as quick as they could so he didint have to wait long. The food and coffee were wonderful and the service even better! they even refreshed his mini marshmallows and held the door for us when we left. And also spoke perfect English! Would come back so often if I lived here! ..they also have a play area for little ones. Just a wonderful little kid friendly place to enjoy a light breakfast or lunch and excellent coffee!

I got to visit here when my band was touring through Kusel and I was so happy that we found Café AusZeit! The coffee was some of my favorite out of everywhere in Europe, the grilled cheese was AMAZING, and the owner Laura is beyond kind. I am so happy to have met Laura and so grateful for the coffee, food, conversation, help with fixing our van, and friendship! I hope anyone reading this review comes here for coffee and that this business thrives!

Lovely, cozy little spot in downtown Kusel. The service was outstanding and the person working was so friendly to us. The breakfast sandwich was made hot and fresh and the prices are fair. They speak great English, which is a plus if you don’t speak great German like me. :)
